FAQs
Why join WUFuego?
WUFuego is Washington University's newest Latin dance group, and we're only getting better. Already, we've created an incredible community around Latin dance and culture. We don't stop at salsa, but we also value many other dances that have a rich historical and cultural significance, including Salsa, Bachata, Merengue, Cumbia, Kizomba, and ChaCha. Not only are we passionate about learning and improving our dancing, but we are also passionate about each other! We value each and every member of our group, and you can always find us hanging out around campus or going social dancing.

We also aim to share our love of Latin dance and culture with not only the WashU community, but also the St. Louis area. We actively engage in social dancing events around the city where we engage with and learn from other St Louis dancers!

WUFuego is also a family of dancers and friends. We love to hang out even outside of practice and social dancing, and we create connections with each other that last beyond our time at WashU!
What to expect?
This will be a group audition, where we will teach some basic line drills to you and the other auditionees. We want to see you actively engaged in the audition, and that you can pick up the basics. We will then pair up, and practice dancing with a partner. Then comes the fun part! We will teach you a short choreographed routine to see how you dance in action.

*** Due to COVID-19, this year's auditions will look a bit different. The first audition will take place over zoom, where we will get to know each other a bit and teach you some basics and a short routine. Then, you will record and send us a video of you performing the choreography (via the audition submission form and/or the dropbox link). This is your chance to show off your performance skills and have fun with the choreo!

(We will not be doing any partner dancing this year)
How do I prepare?
You don't need to prepare at all! Just come stretched, ready to dance, and excited to have a good time!

What should I wear? / Should I bring heels?
You should wear what you feel comfortable moving and sweating in. Regarding footwear, we suggest tennis shoes or dance heels, but just make sure you feel comfortable dancing in them!
What about callbacks?
Within a few days after the audition/makeup, we will email you to let you know if you have a callback or not. If you are invited to callbacks, then you should come to those at the place, date, & time specified, or contact us if you can't make it. Typically this is where we want to see how you do in a social dance setting, applying

*** Callbacks will take place over Zoom, and we will let you know the specifics via email. Similar to usual callbacks, we want to see how you do without choreography.

What is the time commitment?
Practices are 2 hours, typically 2-3 times a week. There may be extra rehearsals for performances.

*** This year, we have 1.5-2 hour practices over zoom, once every other week.
